Tips and Helpful Information for Beginners

  • For you younger and lady riders, make sure you have a bike that you can start relatively easily. The bigger 2 stroke bikes can be difficult to start because of the high compression. Contra to popular belief, in the world of trials bigger is not necessarily better! Many expert riders prefer the smaller machines, so you will be in good company! If you are not sure, a quick call to Matt Payne at Payne’s Cycle Center will be well worth the time (follow the link on the favorite links page).

  • You will need a good pair of boots that cover your ankle, gloves, and helmet. Most trials riders use an open face helmet so they can see the ground easily.

  • If you are not sure what to do at an event just ask anyone, trials riders are a friendly bunch, even if they look a little scary. Most will be happy to share their knowledge of the sport with you and give tips on how to ride a section.
